I believe what the government has continued to do to try to support the economy is very misguided. They have wasted trillions of dollars bailing out creditors and shareholders of failed institutions with broken business models. And this is going to lead to massive problems down the road with regard to our currency and interest rates, in my opinion. And I think that the gold price breaking out to a new high is a strong indication of the reduction in faith and confidence that people have in governments and their fiat currencies. I recently read several good articles at http://www.goldalert.com/ that discuss the Federal Reserve's easy monetary policies in order to try to prevent any sort of deflation from occurring and to try to reflate assets prices. One I found particularly interesting is called "Gold Price Breaks $1,180 as US Dollar Sinks" I think these articles are very helpful for any investor to read because they help to explain the investment implications for the dollar, the gold price, and gold mining companies who I believe will continue to benefit from central banks' inflationary programs.

Thanks.. great post. I’ve been billowing this all my entrepreneurial life. Started selling pecans on a busy intersection at seven. Picked them, bagged them, and sold them. My dad tanned my hide after the first day. I came home late for dinner. — but at least it wasn’t the government that was doing the punishing. That was in 1972. Times have changed.

As in Atlas Shrugged, I fear we are already seeing much of the “fiction” as fact when neighbors can engender partial truth to shut down operations just because they don’t like the operations even though there are many who need the work. And the amount of time and cost to get permission to use your own property, pardon me, we don’t own our property since we have to pay rent (it is called property taxes). I appreciated the story.
