Why The Florida Republican Party Sucks Like the RNC Does on the National Level
by John Galt
January 29, 2010
“Yessa masta, weuns going build ya a railroad dat nobody but demz touristas gonna ride.”

(From the 1/29/10 St. Petersburg Times)
That’s right. Shucking and Jiving Crist is there again to suck up to his master. He begs for money like a drunk or drug addict at an exit ramp off of I-275 in St. Petersburg. If that is not indicative of how corrupt the Republican Party in Florida has become, just review the reason why President Obama was here yesterday. The purpose of the visit was to announce that he is showering our state to give $1.25 billion in tax payer dollars back to Florida for a high speed rail project that the Republican Party shoved through the legislature during the recent special session.
Of course the VOTERS, you know, us residents who used to matter, defeated this project several times in previous general elections but the bribes, er, campaign contributions from the contractors who deal with the Florida Department of Transportation and that giant Rat over near Kissimmee managed to “convince” (translation pay for) enough votes to shove this through over the wishes of the ignorant know nothing voters who do not want to dole out corporate welfare. I hope the whores in Tallahassee spend a moment to reflect on what they have done and enjoy their new master from Washington, D.C.
Because of this project and the still “confidential” report that was never published about all that money lost from the state pension program via Bear Stearns and Lehman, those Republicans who supported this boondoggle need to be voted out of office at any cost. And the RNC in this state does not deserve one single dime as this project is another indication of the level of corruption in our good old boy state politics being run like Hazzard County in the old Dukes of Hazsard television program.

I dunno. The way that photo looks and the way your caption was written, I could swear it was Obongo who was shucking and jiving there. Maybe it’s just me…..

Florida does seem like a silly spot to build high speed rail. The money would be better spent in the north east. Boston>NYC>Philly>DC should the the route that is made high speed. After that do NYC to Chicago. I’m not from Florida but I have visited Tampa and Orlando a number of time and never felt like they needed a train. They need local street cars/light rail before high speed between cites. Tampa & Orlando are not set up for pedestrians like NYC, Boston and DC.

John,

It’s all tied in. The Europeans did NOT do what the Fed wanted they bought short term treasuries (As did everyone else) so they can get out of dollars on short notice. Now that the dollar carry trade is imploding, they are going to bring the Euros home and not roll over the 1-3-6 debt and finish liquidating the MBS crap they are holding. This will put further downward pressure on what’s left of our ABS markets and equity markets. Odds are we crater very very soon. More on that later tonight….Long market week in review is being worked now.

Yeah, I’m waiting for our own version of the newyorkslimes, the st.petetimes, to do an editorial or commentary about how many people will ride that white mouse every day.
I suspect that the truth is that the number will be in the single digits. Even the DC Metro which runs in what is argueably the highest commuter area in the country, has to be subsidized to the tune of millions every year.

Looks like a masonic handshake to me. Oh, how clever they believe themselves to be: believing they’re capable of squaring the circle and all!
Won’t they feel the fools when they fail?

The high speed rail is to connect the inland ports. It’s all about a new economy based on packing humans into sustainable villages and running goods for profit of the few at the expense of the many.
Crist is a fool.

I’m not sure how long it takes to drive the distance this train travels but if it’s normally something you would fly rather then drive the train may do ok in the future. Anything to avoid the nightmare of airport security these days.
Besides the government is going to throw your money away anyways you might as well be able to say you got a train instead of made a rich banker really rich.

70 minutes. And you have to arrive at the trains 30 minutes early for security also.

Note: As memory serves, this was rejected by the voters of florida twice in general elections recently. Why is this being forced down our throats again from the feds? Just a question, and something to be checked into by someone who knows how to do that.

John, to answer your question is simple:
Charlie Crist
He and the RNC cronies cut a back room deal to get this authorized during the special session so they could get Federal funds for this boondoggle. What they DIDN’T say the other day was that the State of Florida will be responsible for covering the operating costs. I’m sure residents of Pensacola and Key West are thrilled that THEIR tax dollars are going for Crist’s Choo-Choo.

If Florida doesn’t want the train we in New York will take. People in NY are pretty disappointed we only got $151million of the $8 Billion. People already ride the trains. We just need money to make them faster and upgrade and add tracks to end delays.
