While I was out playing happy camper in the Everglades and checking on my ‘local’ BOL, some news snuck through the system but thankfully good old Tyler Durden at ZeroHedge.com has the scoop:
It’s Official – America Now Enforces Capital Controls
This is not something I say lightly after reviewing this information and reinforcing the commentary from the Rangel rule which restricted and penalized voluntary emigration and/or renunciation of one’s citizenship from the United States.
If you can, even if it means a 75% loss of your fortunes, get out now.
If you have a universal skill set (Programmer, trader, medical skills, security skills, etc.) and can relocate with little resources, get out now.
If you have real estate holdings in certain nations (not Canada or Mexico) get out now.
The precursor to most major shifts within western civilization have always been the restrictions placed on the flow of capital. Without going off into woo-woo land on you, all I can say is that this is a warning shot that something major is about to occur which further restricts the freedoms of the citizens of this once great nation. When I did my radio show, I warned that this one event, a key moment or marker in any nation’s history was something to be taken deadly seriously. In my opinion it means that a currency realignment or change or outright revocation of rights taken for granted was certain with a 90 day, maybe if we’re lucky, 180 day window.

Yep, I’m with Livingston. I’m flat broke. I have a house and car that is paid for, no debt to speak of, but that’s about it. No job, and no prospect. I was learning to be a programmer, but school just got priced out of reach so there won’t be any graduation for me.
Looks like I get to stay here and shoot the jackboots while other folk get to run like cowards.
While I understand announcing this signal, and I appreciate it as a heads up, good riddance to anyone who leaves and may karma catch up with your a$$.

I had a chance to leave this country for Australia 30 years ago, but my love for my land wouldn’t let me do it. Even though I had a good friend who made the change, and loves Australia now, I look at the land I inherited from my mother’s family and think of the effort expended by my ancestors to keep it. @Wheedle: Besides the private army take, it sounds to me like he got another blank check to write for good old patronage. His personal appointments get a job, unspecified duties and hours, exemption from civil service pay limits (maybe O sets the salary?) and a new Federal ID card useful for the base PX. Outside of buying some votes and dishing out some loot, not the meanest army on the planet. Seems more like an army of Wendy’s than anything else. Which, now that I said that, is bad enough all by itself.

Perspective-I thank you for your comments, your views, C.W’s comments and JG writings were the best to read and kept me coming back for more. I hope I didnt rant and rave too much. I have been trying to wake people around me up to what is coming and many still dont get it. I am making final plans to get myself in one place to stay put since I cannot afford to leave. I suggest others do the same if you cant leave the country. I sincerely hope all of you have a group to ride this one out with. I have been following the decline of our “once” great nation for more than 25 years now and I came to the conclusion more than 15 years ago that America is doomed. The corruption and downright evil coming out of D.C. is almost unbearable. You are really going out on a limb here JG. You risk losing your credibility if this doesn’t materialize within the next year. But I would also like to recommend as well keeping your money out of foreign banks. It would be better to actually have a physical asset offshore that you own. Maybe even a firm like Goldmoney would be sufficient for you, but bottom line hedge yourself. Even if you are “flat broke”, a few dollars a week saved up could buy some silver bullion.

We realize that it is no longer about the people, but we try too wake them up – pray and never ever loose hope and sight of our Faith. These are FM (Frequency Modulated) and are short range radios – about 5 to 20 miles, depending on terrain. These hand-held transceivers use between 2 and 4 AA type batteries. A good pair cost between $35.00 and $65.00. These will be indispensable to inter-family communications after TSHTF.

Go to Harbor Freight or Grizzly’s tool supply and purchase a solar battery charging system for about $10.00, so you can charge AA and 9 Volt batteries. Then get some AA and 9 volt Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries.

Lastly, get a decent shortwave radio. I recently purchased a Grundig unit that operates on AA batteries, a built-in solar panel, a hand-crank generator or external power adapter. It cost avout $75.00, plus S&H. The shortwave radio will allow you to monitor local AM & FM broadcast, as well as AM stations in other countries. Often times the truth is better learned from the outside, then from within.

For sure, you want some way to communicate with low risk of being detected. And you will also want some way to learn about what is going on from unbiased news sources and others such as Amateur (HAM) radio operators.

Hello to you all. We come to your forum with the hopes that we can be of help to someone as we are also in need of help in these truly awful times. We have been blessed to have purchased 40 acres in NM, in the most stunningly beautiful, and (through our research) safest place we can find to ride out the coming storm. We are looking for people to stay on this land with us, long term rental ($2500 yearly or negotiable for longer term). The land is rolling hills, 25 miles from paved road, but accessible with 4 Wheel Drive. There is abundant game – elk, deer, antelope, rabbits and birds. There is enough standing firewood (good, standing-dead red cedar) for quite some time. It is not a subdivision and it is on ranch land, so there are no building restrictions. The views are breathtaking.
We have been living off the grid for several years and are well prepared to “cocoon-in”. Of course, there is always something else one would like to have. One of those is a small community of like-minded people who will help each other make it through. We would love to be able to say, “Come one and all and we will take care of you, you need offer nothing, all will be provided.” But real life, so far, is not like that. We are also part of the human race and have needs as well. If you think it is vulgar to ask for something in return, please don’t respond. The adage, “When the US sneezes, the rest of the world has a cold” is apparent in all things including stability. China would have the toughest time of it. There are 300 million new middle class in China and 300 million people who would suddenly become stuck in a city where they are not from and have no job, mortgage, bills to pay, or prospects on the horizon. Sound familiar? So the point is other countries must have their future taken into consideration before the whole system is brought down. My parents passed away in 1999. Being an avid reader, I wanted to find a good home for their bookcase that held all those leather-bound classics.
Ten years later, wanting to read something, realizing that I had nothing new, turned back to that bookcase. I thought Atlas Shrugged sounded pretty cool being familiar with the concept of Atlas holding up the world.
I can’t believe this book has been hiding in plain view all this time.

There is a lot of talk on here regarding bailing from the US to escape what is coming down the pike. All I can say is you you have any thought of doing this, better get started on making that an option while it is even possible.
I started to see the writing on the wall in about 2005 and the wife and I made the decision to have an international fallback plan if things got bad in the US. Our line in the sand was crossed a while back and we have since immigrated to New Zealand as permanent residents. It was not an easy process, they do not just take anyone (you have to have skills/education they want plus a bunch of other requirements), and it is expensive (cost us a total of around $4k total in the end). It took about a year to move from the initial part of the application until we were officially approved. It is not something you can just decide to do and get on a plane and show up. Illegal immigration is a big deal and it is pretty hard to function here (ie get a job, bank account, phone, anything) without a resident or work visa.
We may or may not stay permanently, but we know we at least have the option and a lifeboat if the US keeps sinking.
NZ has its faults as anywhere but has a lot going for it if the rest of the world goes to hell. First, this country will never starve. There is literally around 10 sheep and 10 cows per capita here and you can grow anything with ease in the climate. I read in a paper once NZ produces enough food to feed its own population about 25-30 times over each year. Renewable energy accounts for around 70-75% of total electricity production. There is a strong national identity except for a small minority of the native Maori.
While not as 2nd Amendment friendly as the US, the laws are not all that bad compared to rest of the world. A gun license is easy to obtain in the rural areas guns are a common site. This is a tradeoff in my opinion. NZ as a whole has a lot less violent crime that the US or UK at present but is not a crime free utopia.
Taxes are not as bad as they appear. It is a graduated tax scale so as you earn more money it is taxes at higher rates up to 39% (every dollar you earn over $70k is taxed at that rate). For example, I make about $55k NZD a year and I pay a total of 23% back to the goverment – with no other deductions to other programs. There is literally three lines on my pay slips – gross pay, tax, net pay. Every individual is taxes seperately so there is no advantage/disadvantage to being married. Overall, my wife and I pay about 22% of our total income in any kind of tax. This sounds bad, but in reality I pay less overall taxes here than I did in the US. There is just one detuction from you paycheck and not like the us which has state income, social security, etc. in addition to FICA. When you add all of that stuff up you reach over 20% pretty quick – or at least we did. Oh and no income tax returns here!
Of course health care has been nationalized and has been since the 1920′s I believe. In my opinion, this has allowed the kiwis to work out the problems in the system and overall the system works well here but it is a much smaller population than most other places that have attempted such a thing. My wife works in the medical field so she has a unique insight into this and says the quality of care is as good to what she experienced in the US.
Overall, it is not the welfare state that many people think. I think there is probably a lot less abuse of the welfare systems here than the states, although it does occur. I feel that I get more back from mhy tax dollars here than I did in the US where I felt like I was simply sustained some welfare leach or bailing out a banker. Here you really see your tax dollars at work and not being wasted for the most part.
The financial institutions here are sound and not involved in the risk asset problems that is destroying many other banks in the US and Europe. Real estate is overpriced in some areas compared to income, but was not inflated by risky sub-prime loans. If you live outside of the major population centers (Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington) housing is pretty affordable in my opinion.
So why did we do it? Well the US is like the Titanic – we are the greatest thing the world has ever created but we have already hit the iceburg and are taking on water. Many of the passengers and crew think that this ship is unsinkable even as the water fills the lower holds. They will do everything they can to save the ship and deny the truth that the ship is doomed regardless of our most sincere and patriotic efforts. There is just too much working against those efforts to keep it above the waves.
When it comes time to abandon ship there will not be enough lifeboats for everyone. Better get one sorted out before they have all departed.

How about Paraguay? Low taxation, no info sharing with the U.S. or E.U. and gun ownership is allowed. Corruption there might be a problem but it is endemic to Latin America, including Costa Rica or Brazil from your list. Panama might be a better (and cheaper) choice than Costa Rica, btw.

I still love America, but I am leaving, and I don’t give a shit whether anyone else likes it or not. After building my doomstead for the last few years I have realized that I am now too old to defend it, so I will soon sell it and be gone. I have found the country for me. Yes, a new country, new language, friendly folks there and a good life. Why stay here to fight everyone in sight when I can go elsewhere, relax and live very well on my Social Security, and if that disappears on my tiny, but innovative brain.
The U.S. collapse will affect all other countries, that’s true, but to varying degrees. (By the way, forget New Zealand all you dreamers, they won’t let you in unless you have $750,000 to invest in a business there.)
My advice: Study other countries, pick one, and carefully formulate a reasonable plan for getting there and then implement it. If I was young I would just travel to a good country and stay there, and to hell with the regulations and their money requirements. That would be better than staying here and suffering.
And for all you lamebrained hotheads in this forum: Don’t kid yourselves, the chaos and violence here ain’t going to be a picnic. You’ll have that realization the first time a bullet pierces your skin. Start thinking about lotsa cute gals, instead of warfare. It’s much better for your mental health.

Who’s a hothead? I own a small ranch just outside of Snyder, Tx. I have some livestock, have been fortunate in other ways, have a farm inheirited from my mother’s family in Arkansas, and work hard for my living. I’ve never been overseas in my entire life, don’t have a passport, and frankly don’t have the time(did I mention I own livestock) to travel the world if I had the desire.
I have a son and a daughter who live here on our family land, and I have a son in the US Army. We are involved in our local school, our church, and our community.
If you want to leave, go, but don’t criticize those of us who stay to face whatever comes our way. My mother’s family survived the Civil War, the Reconstruction, and both my mother and father’s families persevered through the Great Depression. Thankfully, we are well-armed, have alternate energy(solar and wind), have food and water stored, and are as well prepared as one could be, I suppose, although there is always something you forget.
I don’t think it will be as bad as John predicts, but I’m prepared for the worse, and praying it will be much less so.
And John, this is quite a thread, as you attracted a 9-11 truther named Babette, an idiot Islamist, and a pothead expat now living in Canada. Wow, must be some kind of a record.

Since I was a young boy I learned to survive in the mountains, I lived in a tepee and moved around on horse. Actually, New Zealand does not require that amount of money. It only took us about $4000 total for all the fees and such. If you have a skill or qualification that they have identified as a shortage in that country, you have a good shot of making it happen (there are other factors such as age and health). The list ranges from skills such as doctors, IT professionals, to diesel mechanics. We were able to become permanent residents due to my Bachelors Degree which was related to an area that was identified as a shortage. We are by no means rich – just normal everyday people that found another option for our lives.

TO: Moral Majority …. Great Opinion! Thanks. That should be a stand-alone article. I know how you feel because I’m lovin’ Canada’s west coast. No Regrets. My wife and I practice living “off the grid” a few months each year. We now hate “going back to civilization” afterwards. I won’t give up our “secret hot-spots” but lets just say BC has 6,500 islands(mostly uninhabited), and an aggregate 16,000+ miles of shoreline, also mostly uninhabited (including all the inlets, fjords, etc) It’s not very hard to find abandoned cabins or to live off the sea. We learned ocean expedition kayaking from the experts. I can safely say that anyone who has practiced kayaking into the wilderness for months at a time is fully ready to survive any plague or disaster in relative comfort. The natives did it for thousands of years.
Eating fresh fish, prawns, clams, oysters, etc. day after day is not a bad way to “tough it out” if you know what I mean.

In case (2) – you can live free and die free without having to go along with things. You would need to leave and move on…but you would also not have the day-to-day headache of National Socialists in BOTH parties creating and confabulating things to just keep you pinned down.
I would rather be free to create and to build new things than to spend my absent resources fighting an opposition that has limitless access to more money and therefore believes that it can buy anything and anyone.

To Nat Taggert: I’m a Socialist Progressive and I certainly don’t think I’m winning. In fact I’m fed up with Obama because he is continuing too many of Bush’s policies. We are still involved in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We still have the unconstitutional Patriot Act and illegal wiretapping. We still have no real energy policy. We still depend on buying oil from our enemies and then they use our money against us. Environmentally many states are disaster areas; you can’t eat most fish because of toxins. We tax the middle class more than we tax the rich. The banks are still too big to fail. We haven’t done anything about illegal aliens.
You’d be surprised at how many things we actually agree on. Plus I don’t want to give up my guns either. And lastly, I’m not going anywhere. I’ve already been to a great many countries and ours is still the best.

I’m generally not in disagreement with you premise, however lets take two examples:
1) National ID cards. Do I want one – hell no – however things like that have many ways to mitigate/deal with the issue.
Versus
2) Getting chipped in some form. At what point is the point of no return, where one would be better off dead that surviving to fight another day?
