From the United Kingdom Defence Ministry website for the Army:
The Ministry of Defence confirms that Sergeant Peter Anthony Rayner of 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, ‘Lions of England’, Theatre Reserve Battalion, was killed in Afghanistan on Friday 8 October 2010.
Sergeant Rayner was killed in action when he was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device whilst leading his men on patrol in the Nahr-e-Saraj District of Helmand Province.
That story has been repeated thousands of times since the declaration of the mythical “war on terror” by George W. Bush and his Western allies in 2001-2002. The problem is the back story which is not being told by most of the mainstream media, ignored by the majority of politicians, rubber stamped by bureaucrats, and denied by four star buffoons while hitting their shots off of the seventh tee with their alcoholic drink of choice by 11:04 a.m this Sunday morning. The real story is being told by the United Kingdom tabloid, The Sun, in this story:
Don’t fire at the Taliban bombers…
The story by Alastair Taylor and David Willetts could have been conceived in Anytown, USA, and sadly follows a similar pattern of disgusting political correctness which highlights the insane ROE’s (Rules of Engagement) developed which are doing less to secure Afghanistan and more to insure the deaths of NATO/ISAF soldiers in the various wars. The key portion of the story from Mrs Rayner’s statements and in print on Saturday, July 9:
She said her husband, 34, told senior officers of the danger but his warnings were “laughed off”.
Four days later the dad of one was killed when one of the mines went off as his patrol escorted a bomb disposal team.
Wendy called on the Government to change rules of engagement which she says force our soldiers to treat the Taliban with kid gloves by not shooting first.
She said: “They are not allowed to fire on these terrorists, who are allowed to get away with murder.
“Let our soldiers be soldiers. We have lost too many men out there.”
She went on: “Peter was concerned about the number of explosive devices being planted in the area they were patrolling and had told higher ranks because he feared one of them would be killed.
“He said they could see people planting these devices but could do nothing about it. They could not open fire or make contact with them.
“They laughed it off and said, ‘You will do as you are told’.
To my friends in uniform, I apologize again. As a voter, I believed that fool from Texas in 2004 that he was serious about fighting the “war on terror” and that he would insure our troops did not die for an unjust cause. As we approach the tenth year of the beginning of the war in Afghanistan I realize that I failed you by not listening to common sense and insuring that our soldiers are only sent into battle to win. I failed you by not voting for those who supported a strict interpretation of the Constitution and standing for principles instead of practicality. I hope one day you can forgive me for my errors and omissions and understand that since that fateful election in 2004, I have heard your voice for freedom and that damned piece of paper you swore to defend for us.
Since the wars began, the losses have outweighed the tactical victories:
- America has wide open borders yet has created an internalized police state where six month old children and ninety-five year old grandmothers can not escape the diaper inspection should they dare wish to fly, take a bus, board a subway, ferry, or cruise ship. Surveillance has superseded common sense and the apparent evolution of a domestic police force fully equipped with the proverbial black helicopters, police cars, and now armored vehicles only creates stories for the “alternative” media, even if one of the American Stasi parks in front of the Fox New York studios during a live shot.
- Financial independence is no more because of several hundred individuals engaged in the war on the West were able to trigger an over-reaction by the Western powers which accelerated their plans for a cashless society to implement their command and control economic system, placing restrictions on individual freedoms yet not the financial elites profiting from this mythical war.
- Soldiers who were over-deployed, abused with numerous combat commitments that had no strategic importance, and then returned to the States to be “fired” as the military no longer needs them, find there is no employment in this “recovering” economy nor desire by the Federal Government to provide assistance as promised when they enlisted.
- Veterans return to discover that the bureaucrats are far worse to engage than any units from Al-Qaeda or the Taliban.
The West has surrendered the war on terror by turning the guns inwards and not outwards towards the enemies of freedom and liberty. It is no longer a war on terror but a war for profit and the arbitrage used are the brave soldiers like Sergeant Rayner and thousands of dead and wounded American and allied soldiers. The West has lost another war because a moral common ground was never established and a plan for outright victory never permitted.
Godspeed Sergeant Rayner and to all those who serve.
Perhaps next time, we the voters, can do better; before we lose not just our societies, but our souls.
