The annual story about the new words added to the lexicon of the English language has been presented to the public on a not so slow news day as per this Reuters story:
US Merriam-Webster dictionary adds “tweet,” “bromance”
Some of the clever words highlighted in the article include:
“Tweet”
“Bromance”
“Crowdsourcing”
“Parkour”
“Boomerang child”
While the list is extensive, I feel there are some clever words which are important to the English language that were overlooked.
Here is my list of candidates which are modern, pertinent, and relative to our nation and culture:
1. Bankster -n., Banker + Gangster; any financial official engaged in business within the U.S. or Europe that manipulated the political leaders for bailouts, violated the law but never prosecuted, and abscond with the general public’s savings without shame.
2. Obamacize - v., I. To revise history at will, regardless of facts; II. See – “Carter Malaise”
3. Buffetteering – n., I. To use political contacts for financial advantage; II. aka., “Frontrunning”
4. “High Frequency Trading” – n., The act of using computers to unethical drive stock prices lower; v.- The action of preventing financial media hosts from crying on television and insuring profits by banksters using unethical trading practices.
5. “Debt ceiling” – n., Mythical instrument created by the United States Congress to create panic; also see: Unicorns
6. Chinatize - v., to borrow monies or trade sovereignty to the nation of Communist China to retain financial or political position of power
7. ETF - n., Modern version of the old term “holding company”
8. Republicrat – n., A Democrat party politiican in drag.
9. “Mainstream Media” – n., Outlets for relaying government or corporate propaganda. Examples: Newspapers, wire services, cable news, NPR
10. Wishcasting – n., I. The masochistic desire for a major storm like a hurricane to hit one’s locale. II. All Washington, D.C. financial projections. III. Most 10Q and 8K’s filed by U.S. financial corporations.
