One night, my readers might be sitting at home enjoying a movie via one of the streaming services on television when suddenly the power goes out. Being prepared for almost anything, the reader first grabs his or hers cell phone, turns on the flashlight app and moves to the kitchen where more flashlights and candles are ready to go in a drawer. Then the ultimate prepper goes to the emergency phone list on his or hers refrigerator to telephone the power company when they notice a disturbing fact:
As the family sat in wonderment as to what happened, they grabbed a traditional, old fashioned transistor radio waiting on the news as the Emergency Alert System (EAS) was blaring as they turned the old radio on to find out information without the usual comforts of their cell phone or internet access.
Think this can or will not happen in the United States?
It already has as referred to by some in law enforcement on this version of the old “redneck EMP” from 2013 (via Foreign Policy):
Around 1:00 AM on April 16, at least one individual (possibly two) entered two different manholes at the PG&E Metcalf power substation, southeast of San Jose, and cut fiber cables in the area around the substation. That knocked out some local 911 services, landline service to the substation, and cell phone service in the area, a senior U.S. intelligence official told Foreign Policy. The intruder(s) then fired more than 100 rounds from what two officials described as a high-powered rifle at several transformers in the facility. Ten transformers were damaged in one area of the facility, and three transformer banks — or groups of transformers — were hit in another, according to a PG&E spokesman.
Cooling oil then leaked from a transformer bank, causing the transformers to overheat and shut down. State regulators urged customers in the area to conserve energy over the following days, but there was no long-term damage reported at the facility and there were no major power outages. There were no injuries reported. That was the good news. The bad news is that officials don’t know who the shooter(s) were, and most importantly, whether further attacks are planned.
Just imagine if this were carried out on a larger scale? For the remainder of 2015, I suggest, especially if other economic and international events begin to occur, that the potential for massive terrorist attacks on the United States is without a doubt not a possibility, but an almost 100% guarantee. The question becomes then who and what factions would engage in such action and how would such an attack cripple our country to a degree that leaves us geopolitically and economically disabled.
I. Islamist Radicals
Since September 11, 2001 the citizens of the United States have endured several smaller Islamist terrorist attacks, yet nothing on the scale of that horrid day. The problem that most Americans have ignored as they lost their liberties is that the terrorists from the Middle East are playing long term games. If they can smuggle a dirty bomb across our porous Southern border, they will and would use it.
If they can launch a coordinated mass attack on soft targets, they will to maximum effect.
And worse, if they can obtain and spread a massively contagious disease, preferably airborne in nature, these animals would infect themselves and begin intermingling within the citizenry until a disease as horrid as Ebola or worse infects upwards of 30% of our population. But why and how are the most likely delivery instruments between now and then end of this year? There are several key dates and times which would provide the usual coincidental time periods to “glorify” their actions to the Islamic world and the Arab street.
Why September 11, 2015? Soft targets and romantic dates are the trademark of Islamic terrorists and this date is 14 years after that day of infamy. The United States government might have some hard working individuals, but as the Chattanooga, TN shooting demonstrates, the focus on Islamism is minimal as the U.S. has changed the focus to white, Tea Party type or racist groups as potential sources of future problems. This leaves groups like Al Qaeda a perfect opportunity to resurrect their flailing reputation and membership as ISIS has usurped their leadership role as the world’s leading Islamist terror group. With a full day of sporting events like Major League Baseball in major cities like Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc. along with high school and college football, concerts, autumn gatherings and the precursor to one of the holiest times on the Jewish calendar and there are numerous targets of opportunity.
November 24 thru November 27, 2015-Black Friday
Despite popular belief that Americans do not go out shopping due to terrorist fears, you could fool me or anyone of my readers as the crowds in shopping malls and big box stores are covered live by both local and financial television around the country. God forbid the terrorists make that long worried about attack on a big box store or stores, malls, or parades and kill thousands. The reaction of our thinly traded stock markets that day may indeed shut down the financial system as our retail economy would not recover. To add to our concerns is the failure of the Clinton State Department to secure the thousands of MANPADS in Libya which in fact might indicate that hundreds of shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles are in the hands of ISIS or Al Qaeda cells. Once those enter into the U.S. a coordinated attack on planes landing or taking off is a fear that DHS has expressed privately but they do not dare to do so publicly as it would permanently cripple the commercial airline industry; on the busiest flying days of the year.
December 31, 2015 – A Last Blast Nationally
The NCAA college football playoffs, bowl games, and more along with huge parties nationwide. But what happens if the authorities guess wrong on the major targets, then numerous smaller ones become viable for the terrorists. Unfortunately, for the American people many experts express little optimism that a large scale WMD attack on these high attendance targets does in fact have the potential for success and as a result, glory for the radicals which are begging for a major U.S. military intervention into Iraq and Syria to inflict even more casualties for another decade.
II. Cyber-terrorism and Cyberwarfare
In a prior edition of this series, I warned about the potential of a conflict with China and/or Russia. The actual fighting on the ground is a terrifying prospect in and of itself; now add in the asymmetric addition of a cyber conflict on top of such a war and America could turn into a rerun of Little House on the Prairie overnight. How severe of a threat is this? Cyber terrorism from individuals may or may not have any success but a state sponsored attack from Russia for instance has the U.S. Government paralyzed just thinking about the threat. From the March 3, 2015 edition of The Diplomat:
While I can’t go into detail here, the Russian cyber threat is more severe than we had previously assessed,” the director of national intelligence, James Clapper, told the Senate Armed Services Committee during the 2015 presentation of the “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community.”
The report lists sophisticated cyberattacks as the principle national security threat facing the United States. “Cyber threats to U.S. national and economic security are increasing in frequency, scale, sophistication, and severity of impact,” the assessment notes.
Russia is singled out as one of the most sophisticated nation-state actors in cyberspace. The report notes that Russia’s Ministry of Defense is establishing its own cyber command, responsible for conducting offensive cyber activities (similar to the United States Cyber Command).
How good are their capabilities that the government does not want you to know about? From ABC News in 2014:
From the text of the story:
A destructive “Trojan Horse” malware program has penetrated the software that runs much of the nation’s critical infrastructure and is poised to cause an economic catastrophe, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
National Security sources told ABC News there is evidence that the malware was inserted by hackers believed to be sponsored by the Russian government, and is a very serious threat.
The hacked software is used to control complex industrial operations like oil and gas pipelines, power transmission grids, water distribution and filtration systems, wind turbines and even some nuclear plants. Shutting down or damaging any of these vital public utilities could severely impact hundreds of thousands of Americans.
These attacks and tests have happened when we were at a time of peace. What happens when or if we go to war with Russia, China, or other nations with excellent cyber terrorists waiting in the wings? Because if the Russian cyber-military knows of our weaknesses, odds are other unfriendly nations also know and would exploit a period of economic disruption, such as during a major market correction (usually in August-October time periods) to attack our infrastructure, including Wall Street (as rumored with the recent NYSE systems crash) to destroy our economy and cripple America for six months or longer.
III. Home Grown Terror or THE False Flag
Remember when the Washington Post published the map pictured above several months ago, showing the “red” territories as hostile referring to the training for Jade Helm and everyone asked just what the hell?
Then recently the New York Times published this article on June 24, 2015 so as almost to infer that home grown terrorists are worse than radical Islamists:
This quote from the article linked above should provide a clue:
But the breakdown of extremist ideologies behind those attacks may come as a surprise. Since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly twice as many people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims: 48 have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim, including the recent mass killing in Charleston, S.C., compared with 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists, according to a count by New America, a Washington research center.
What is not mentioned is that “New America” is a radical leftist pro-government anti-2nd Amendment research group, but hey, facts do not matter to this administration. But imagine the reaction if a Redneck EMP or Poor Man’s EMP event happened because 100 nutcase white boys decided to coordinate an attack on the U.S. electrical and internet grid?
Thankfully it is very doubtful any of the white supremacist groups or anti-government extremists could pull this off; most have long been infiltrated by FBI and DHS informants and that is not some sudden revelation which should shock the world. However, if corrupt, venal administration wanted to declare a national state of emergency to extend their power and rule for say 4 to 6 more years, the practice the American public is NOT seeing within the Jade Helm 2015 exercises should be of great concern.
What if, and yes it is tinfoil hat time to some degree, the unknown military units intermingling within the populations of the Western U.S. are not engaged in actually anti-terrorist exercises but preparing and practicing dry runs to launch a crippling false flag attack which causes the American public to demand action to stop these terrorist acts from ever happening again!
Crazy as this sounds, it has happened before in world history:
The prime time for such an attack would be in concert or reaction to a negative economic event, such as a stock market crash in September or during an overseas conflict which is not progressing in favor of American forces, requiring a domestic distraction to unify the nation and allow the public to demand a firm martial law style police state to guaranteed “their freedoms and security” during the conflict. Of course, once such a declaration of martial law occurs, it might be like the 1860’s where it lasted for years before it was lifted; if it ever is again in our lifetimes.
With all of the world conflicts coming to a boil be it from the South China Sea, to the Ukraine, to various Middle East conflicts or disaffected U.S. citizens, this period from August of this year through the end of 2015 should make every citizen act and prepare in a more alert manner.
However, there could be other issues far larger than terrorism and world war that no one can prepare for; to be continued in Part 4.
