Over a year ago I published a map where I thought Russia might impose a so-called “No-Fly Zone” over parts of Syria to block pro-U.S. coalition aircraft from operating. That was on September 9, 2015:
That zone is no longer relevant after today.
The Russian Federation, despite what the morons in D.C. thinks, does not like to be humiliated nor lied to and the United States under President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have betrayed President Vladimir Putin for the last time.
First some background before the events of today are reviewed and what will happen any time after today.
Overnight, per an Al-Masdar News exclusive, over 1,000 elite Syrian forces arrived in the Deir Ezzor region (excerpt from the story available at this link):
Al-Masdar News was given exclusive information on Saturday, regarding the recent arrival of over 1,000 soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
According to a military source from Damascus, over 1,000 newly trained soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard were deployed to the Deir Ezzor Governorate after spending several months training in Deir ‘Attiyeh.
With the arrival of these fresh soldiers from the 105th Brigade, the Syrian Armed Forces have received a major boost to their defenses around the provincial capital.
The forces were moved into position to repel an offensive that apparently the Russian intelligence agencies had warned the Syrian government about where ISIS was about to seize strategic points around the region to try to retake positions they had lost months earlier.
Then the following happened as reported by RT today:
US-led coalition jets have bombed Syrian government forces’ positions near the eastern city of Deir ez-Zor, killing 62 troops and “paving the way” for Islamic State militants, the Syrian Army General Command told the state television.
The bombing took place on al-Tharda Mountain in the region of Deir ez-Zor and caused casualties and destruction on the ground, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Saturday.
Sixty-two Syrian soldiers were killed and over 100 injured in the airstrike by the US-led coalition, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said, citing information received from the Syrian General Command.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the aircraft which carried out the bombings had entered Syrian airspace from the territory of Iraq.
Four strikes against Syrian positions was performed by two F-16 jet fighters and two A-10 support aircraft, it added.
“If the airstrike was caused by the wrong coordinates of targets than it’s a direct consequence of the stubborn unwillingness of the American side to coordinate with Russia in its actions against terrorist groups in Syria,” Konashenkov stressed.
The Defense Ministry also confirmed a report by SANA that an Islamic State offensive began right after Syrian Army positions were hit from the air.
“Immediately after the airstrike by coalition planes, Islamic State militants launched their offensive. Fierce fighting with the terrorists is currently underway in the area of the airport where for a long a time humanitarian aid for civilians was parachuted,” Konashenkov said.
The Syrian General Command has called the bombing a “serious and blatant aggression” against Syrian forces, and said it was “conclusive evidence” that the US and its allies support IS militants.
According to a news release of the US Department of Defense, the coalition’s aviation performed combat missions in Deir ez-Zor on Saturday.
“We are aware of the reports and checking with Centcom and CJTF (Combined Joint Task Force),” the Pentagon told RT.
The US Central Command later has issued a statement, saying that it had no intention of targeting Syrian government forces near Deir ez-Zor.
“Syria is a complex situation with various military forces and militias in close proximity, but [the] coalition would not intentionally strike a known Syrian military unit,” the statement read.
CENTCOM promised that the strike and circumstances surrounding it will be reviewed “to see if any lesson can be learned.”
The last sentence tells the tale of the tape. Unfortunately there are now unconfirmed reports that over 80 Syrian soldiers were killed and the ISIS offensive is succeeding on the positions where the Syrian military was hit forcing a retreat in that region. Apparently this attack appears to be retaliation and the Saudis, Obama, and U.S. military rubbing in Putin’s face. The response from the Russian Foreign Ministry has been powerful as they have called for a United Nations Security Council meeting on this matter and stated the following (via Itar-Tass):
Russia comes to conclusion that US defends IS — Foreign Ministry
US airstrikes at the Syrian army lead to the conclusion that Washington defends the Islamic State (terrorist organization banned in Russia), Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Rossiya 24 TV channel on Sunday.
“If we had suspicions earlier that this is in defense of Jebhat al-Nusra (terrorist organization banned in Russia), then now, after today’s airstrikes at the Syrian army, we come to a scary conclusion — the White House defends IS,” Zakharova said.
“If this is the case, then maybe this is exactly why the US side does not agree on publishing the Russian-US agreements on Syria,” she continued. “We demand explanations from Washington – whether this is a deliberate policy to support IS or a mistake,” she noted.
According to the Syrian government forces’ command, 62 servicemen were killed and 100 more injured in an airstrike near the city of Deir ez-Zor. Russian Defense Ministry’s official spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that on Saturday, “from 5pm to 5:50pm near an aerodrome of the Deir ez-Zor city (Syria), the aircraft of ‘anti-IS coalition’ (two F-16 and two A10) delivered four airstrikes at units of Syrian government forces which were surrounded by Islamic State terrorist groupings,” Konashenkov noted.
The diplomatic pleasantries and nonsense that are about to take place are nothing more than stalls for time so Russian reinforcements can be rushed into Syria and Iran. Barring an announcement of a withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Syria and cessation of all air operations over Syrian airspace, I look for the Russians to call Obama’s bluff and humiliate him in a much more dramatic fashion:
By Sunday night (Monday morning in Syria) the Russian Federation and Ministry of Defense will declare a “No-Fly Zone” for the United States over Syria and only permit Turkish Air Force operations in the north of the country.
This means there will be no more U.S. drone operations permitted to collect intelligence for Al-Qaeda (Nusra) in Syria nor apparently ISIS forces. It also means that if United States ground personnel are not withdrawn within whatever window Russia announces they will be viewed as enemy combatants to the Russian and Syrian governments. The next move will fall on to the shoulders of an immature, irrational lame duck President with zero foreign policy accomplishments and an ignorance of the Middle East/MENA region which is pathetic even by U.S. public education 7th grade standards. If his ego decides to test the Russian resolve, the world could witness American aircraft being shot down by Russian S-400 Surface to Air missiles or worse, another Russian aircraft. Either way, it puts us on a path which should terrify any sane individual.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are within 72 hours of the potential beginning of a World War.
All because a lame duck, globally despised narcissist of a President got his feelings hurt as Islamist terrorists were getting killed by forces which did not view the world through his perverted, terrorist blood stained eyes.
God help us all.
