Priebus Named Chief of Staff: Et tu, Brute?

Caesar has spoken and Reince Priebus is his Chief of Staff.

Remember this when he is betrayed by the Establishment as Reince is the ultimate Republican insider, a man who has worked at the direction of Senator Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to undermine the Tea Party and conservative idealism that his new Chief Strategist Steve Bannon claims to uphold.

From Politico:

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has chosen Reince Priebus as his White House chief of staff putting his trust in a Washington party figure after railing against the political establishment from the start of his candidacy.

Steve Bannon will serve as chief strategist and senior counselor, Trump added.

“I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country,” Trump said in a statement. “Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again.”

The announcement also said the Priebus and Bannon will work closely with Vice President-elect Mike Pence in the transition effort.

“It is truly an honor to join President-elect Trump in the White House as his Chief of Staff,” Priebus said in the statement. “I am very grateful to the President-elect for this opportunity to serve him and this nation as we work to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism. He will be a great President for all Americans.”

Hopefully for Trump’s sake, Bannon will watch the President’s back when Priebus is in the room.

Because that son of a bitch will stab Trump in the back faster than Brutus in Rome attacking General Caesar.

Given that one of the main roles of the Chief of Staff is to shepherd Executive Branch legislation through Congress, the new Chief of Staff, with his existing relationships, may very well be the ideal choice. Keeping some campaign promises will get Trump re-elected in 2020. Trump wants to be on Mount Rushmore and is playing a long game.

Seems like a crazy pick to me. Maybe he is going House of Cards and moved Priebus out of the RNC and will replace with one of his own, then will frame Priebus for a crime in a later episode.

I suppose the difference between genius and insanity is determined by the history writer.
