When you are young and unsure about what do,
Dads help you find your way.
When you are older and know it all,
Dads help to save the day.
When you score a winning goal or sack a QB,
Dads cheer you on strong, to set your spirit free.
When you set fire to the trees just oustide your house,
Dads let you know you are a moron, while yelling with their spouse.(I Love you too Mom)
When you make a fire with two sticks as a Scout,
Dads love to point you out.
When you get too drunk in college, and pass out in the yard,
Dads love to get the paper at five and yell “wake up you stupid tard!”
When your car breaks down because it’s an old beat up Bug,
Dads love to help you rebuild it, without a whimper or a shrug.
When Dad’s Falcons or Dawgs choke in championship games once again,
I’ll never call his “G.D.” against the coaches as a major sin.
When tough love is called for, or a gentle hand of need,
Dads are always there to support you, please trust me.
I’m going to miss you Dad and will be there for your final days.
Because Just Dads, like Our Father,
Always try to show us, The Way.
P.S. – To all of my readers and friends who have been so kind in the past, yes, my father’s cancer has returned with a vengeance. The prognosis is now final so it’s just a matter of time. Thank you all again for your support.
