Beware of the Media Chart Criminals

There is a sad, sad commentary on just how easy it is to deceive retail and some members of the financial community, especially rookies. A case in point is how at the end of every bull market, the foolishness expands to infinity and beyond, people create investment vehicles for profit with no viable future, and fraud becomes the accepted practice.

Another annoying trend is that when those who have a load of securities to sell and proceed to appear on financial pump and dump media, they create charts that illustrate that their case is always correct. There is a flaw in some, not all of these appearances but it’s obvious to anyone who has been around the proverbial block.

Thus in the past year or so the phrase “chart crime” has become quite prevalent.

Let’s play along and demonstrate how easy it is to do this by pulling random headlines and pairing them with a chart.

We’ve all seen worse charts. It would appear that after a rally from the 120ish lows it appears that after a week it is basing for another run higher. This is the Uniswap chart of the NFTI index. Let’s look for headlines and past stories that might support this move.

NFT in Art: The Future of Digital Creativity and Ownership – From Dec 2024. Interesting, two plus years later, it’s still “the future.”

NFTs May Be Entering Their Financial Renaissance – Hackernoon May 14, 2025

And on and on and on the list could go on for years if I wanted to.

The problem not just with NFTs, but equities, bonds, private equity (especially), real estate, etc. is they refuse to tell the schmuck, the mark, the target one key thing.

Let’s revisit that chart from above on a longer timeline:

A full on round trip. Hope it was a fun ride as most NFTs have been.

The word, the one thing, the last thing Wall Street, NFT Street, the Bubblevisions, hell Sesame Street wants to reveal to investors before fleecing them, er, selling a product?

Context

Always do more than “trust” the source, including myself, and do your own research. Never forget the market has something to sell, even if it is to you where you will lose everything believing once again that the security or “item” is the future.
