Another Possible Mutation of Coronavirus Being Reported by Fox-5 in Atlanta

08.03.2020 15:30 ET

The scary apart about the following story from Fox-5 News in Atlanta is not that they are moving the suspected infected individuals to the Atlanta area to Dobbins AFB, but the wording of the report. Prior to this news report, only two known strains of COVID19, aka, coronavirus were known; type S and type L. Thus I am hoping that the story is nothing more than the media doing its usual sloppy job and this is just an erroneous report at a time where it can least be allowed to occur.

That being said, with the subjects being moved closer to the CDC in Atlanta, it does raise a few alarm bells.

From Fox-5 News in Atlanta:

Grand Princess cruise ship passengers heading to Dobbins Air Base

Excerpted:

Passengers aboard a mammoth cruise ship off the California coast where 21 people have tested positive for a new strain of coronavirus will be transferred to a Georgia airbase, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Sunday.

The governor made the announcement after being briefed that 34 residents of Georgia and additional residents of the East Coast were currently on the Grand Princess cruise ship. Currently, 19 crew members and two others have tested positive for COVID-19 onboard the ship, which has remained near San Francisco.

According to Kemp, the passengers will be securely transferred to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. There they will undergo testing and be quarantined for possible exposure to the new coronavirus.

None of the passengers being tested have currently tested positive for the virus.

Dear God, I hope that is just bad reporting. But for the transport of patients all the way from San Francisco to the Atlanta area, closer to the CDC, that seems to verify the story somewhat. Here is the statement from Governor Kemp’s office:

If this is not bad reporting, the ball game has changed and strict quarantine protocols must be introduced in all regions with active infections immediately within the United States, in my opinion, before it is too late.
