The Panic Porn for Clicks Business is Alive and Well

Today was one of those rare days when the confluence of events globally all came into plain sight for those willing to discern between reality and those pumping content for insane reasons.

For the first time in my memory, Infowars.com was the most logical, reasoned, and reasonable with their reporting of the national cell phone outage that impacted the major cell companies today.

IF one looked at the dramatic headlines today, one would think the “mainstream” media was trying to scare you:

Wait a minute, Infowars.com had the best, most fact based, logical theory for the potential of a cyberattack on America’s cell phone networks?

Yes, Infowars.

The good thing about the internet and social media is that everyone can contribute to the discussion and yes, even break news.

The bad part? The new model of panic porn news to trigger people into the “oh my God did you read this on xyz.com” to generate ad dollars and clicks with blatantly zero knowledge about real facts.

For example, if one is a regular reader of my pages, one might notice my space weather information block on the right side of the main page:

If this were a true major X-class flare that took out our satellites and cell networks, one would not be able to read this right now. In fact, one might be building a camp fire and asking their better half if they want ravioli or breaking out the #10 cans of food instead.

Dr. Ryan French nailed the myth of a solar flare causing this outage in this X posting:

Thus why I try on these pages to avoid the panic porn. If it’s a subject I do not understand, I shall effort to find someone more knowledgeable with research to back up something I have to write or speak about. But just posting for clicks is getting tiresome for many and thus why social media has the risk of following the disaster known as the mainstream media (see Fox Local posting above) into irrelevancy.

Choose one’s sources wisely, especially as our country, and the world slip into even greater instability.

Panic porn is useful. For businesses and for politicians.
That’s why we see so much of it.
